It was hard to miss that London Fashion Week is back in September with the help of many photographers, well-dressed individuals and an increased number of minivans. Although the news from the Queen may have changed some plans, many designers respectfully continue with their shows and pay homage to her Majesty in their ways.
From British fashion favorites like Molly Goddard and Rixo to designers-on-the-rise like Masha Popova and Nensi Dojaka, the city has been a buzz with creativity as brands debut their Spring/Summer 2023 collections. We’re always here to update you on the latest happenings at London Fashion Week S/S23.
Molly Goddard
Molly Goddard was all about neon, stripes and ruffles – and we’ll take it all! Goddard’s vision of SS23 is full-of-get-up-and-go. Models walked in zig-zag patterns through the Seymour Leisure Centre, Marylebone, London, to a rousing tune by Kele Le Roc’s Things We Do for Love. This mix of Garage energy and the classicism of violins was palpable. It’s about having fun dressing up. It was all about wearability. Some models were seen swapping out items with other separates behind the curtain. You can easily incorporate these pieces into your wardrobe, which can be worn repeatedly. This culminated in a stunning, voluminous white wedding gown – a contender to be the best alternative.
Christopher Kane
Kane revisited classics to compile a list of wardrobe icons for his London Fashion Week return. It all started with anatomy drawings and florals. Cut-out tops were also used. Kane even included Kane pinks. It was about forensic investigation of the body, with many references to anatomy, medical illustrations, and cut-outs. A simple grey cardigan, held together by a clear vinyl structure that mimicked the skeleton, was reworked to fit into your wardrobe.
Rejina Pyo
Rejina Pyo, a designer, positioned amongst clouds on the 28th floor in a building that overlooks the London skyline, presented her Spring/Summer 2023 collection. As models strolled through the collection, a voiceover discussed women in the workplace. Pyo said you could wear thin pieces, such as tops, skirts, and billowing dresses, with or without linings.
This collection explores what it means to love work and celebrates women. Pyo has created a selection of pieces that women will love to wear.
Nensi Dojaka
Nensi Donjaka is a designer who does chic sex appeal. Nensi Dojaka is known for her beautiful cut-out dresses and sheer layering. The designer took it a step further this season by adding denim to her collection, which includes a selection of classic Nensi lace-trimmed minidresses, stretch fabric midis, and biker shorts. The collection felt natural and romantic. There were varying shades and patterns of pink throughout the range and an applique motif with a sweetheart shape. Is Nensi the party girl Nensi is famous for falling in love with?
The show’s crown jewel was when the supermodel Emily Ratajkowski, loved worldwide, walked out backstage in a floor-length pink with a sheer train. There were a lot of gasps from the crowd. It was, as they say, quite the moment.
Dilara Findikoglu
It has been a quiet season. Everything has been quiet. Except for the 20 minutes of collective silence, the show’s music and soundtrack were paired back. For example, the Dilara Discoverikoglu SS23 Show featured rousing classical music played while guests sat. However, the music stopped as soon as the first model climbed up the stairwell to a derelict W2 Building. The only sounds that could be heard were footsteps, heels on wooden floors and fabrics being pulled and twisted while snagging on the ground. These clothes speak volumes because of their incredible craftsmanship. This was Findikoglu’s most wearable collection to date. It is full of sex and glamour, with a gothic edge.
Eudon Chui
Eudon Choi’s collection combines sleek tailoring with fluid, flowing dresses. It would look great in any woman’s closet. It felt sophisticated, but it was still wearable in various summery colors, including bright orange, sky, and mustard yellow.
