Trends you should know about New York Fashion Week.

Here’s a look at the season to come.

New York Fashion Week is back. With lockdown no longer an option, the city has decided to abandon digital presentations and embrace IRL events. New York City has been buzzing with buyers, editors, and influencers eager to see designers’ visions for Spring/Summer 2023.

It seems that the noughties are still influencing trends. While low-waist silhouettes are still very popular, bubble skirts- favored by It-girls everywhere on the red carpet in 2006 – have seen a remarkable resurgence. The statement skirt, popularized by Paris Hilton and Lauren Conrad over 15 years ago, is back and much more fashionable.

We’ve also seen fringing given a night update for 2023. This often casual embellishment can now be found in crystal and beaded versions and is used to adorn the hemline of midi and gowns. Designers have celebrations in their hearts, as party-ready separates and dresses appear on several catwalks. S/S23 is all about glitters, sequins, and crystals.

Top trends from New York Fashion Week:

The Bubble skirts have returned.

Think back to the mid-noughties. This was a time when MySpace was king. Misha Barton and The OC were everywhere on our TVs. Bubble skirts were the fashion trend. Although MySpace is now gone, Spring/Summer 2023 will see the return of the puffy, puff-ball skirts from years ago.

The bubble skirts of 2023 were seen on the runways at Khaite and Proenza Schouler. It’s too much for my teenage self.

Not your typical wallflower

Every year, floral prints are a staple of the spring/summer runway shows. The trend is not groundbreaking, to quote a well-known fashion icon. Designers are going one step further with florals in 2023. They will use 3D floral designs and appliques instead of 2D prints. Designers have created sculptural flowers for this season by adding them to skirts and tops.

Fringe benefits

This season’s fringe has lost its wild west connotations and is back, and it’s chicer than ever. Jonathan Simkhai and Michael Kors created this season’s fringe trims for formal wear. They are embellished with crystal beading and have crystal embellishments. This is a very dressy version of the trend.

How low are you able to go

For a variety of reasons, low-waist silhouettes are making a comeback. Low-rise jeans have been back in fashion. This Spring, designers are reinventing the look with very low-waisted maxi dresses and tailored trousers. Tibi and Peter Do send models down the runway wearing white maxis with low-slung hemlines, while LaQuan Smith chose hip-skimming pants in bold green, pink, and green colors.

All that glitters

Designers are now in a great mood after the lockdowns have ended. The runway was full of party-ready pieces, with glitter, sequins and crystal embellishments appearing at Michael Kors, Tom Ford, and Brandon Maxwell. Tom Ford’s collection had a retro vibe with Studio 54-esque metallic ensembles and curly hairstyles that matched.
